

The brothers served in the Bedford Militia from 1775-1779 when all of the militamen were discharged on the same day. Thomas came to the area in 1794 and bought 428 acres of ground. In addition to the acreage donated to the church (St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran in Summerhill), he als gave to the Pennsylvania Railroad a 200 foot right-of-way through all his ground for the good of the community.
Thomas , who died in 1858, was buried alongside his wife. Her stone is still standing and she died in 1855. Charles is the second person buried in the cemetery; that was in 1836. – Excerpted from the following article which appeared in the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, 24 May 1987.
